Full Course

The full Level 1 course was designed to be a Foundation for course Level 2 and course Level 3 and is a pre-requisite for both. The course is a mix of course textbook(pdf) reading and short videos to watch; the sections in the textbook correspond with the section numbered videos. At the end of the course is a 50 question multiple choice exam and the pass mark is 80%.


The Full Course Format Consists of :

3. 50 Question Multiple Choice Online Exam (80% or better required to pass exam)

 

Level 1 Course Description:

Master the basics for working with clients who are physically active with diabetes or prediabetes, including types of training that are appropriate and critical, injury prevention, blood glucose monitoring, medication basics (and exercise effects), complications, exercise motivation, and more.



All Certified Personal Trainers should have this information to train these clients!

Section 1: Diabetes Overview: key terms, diabetes and prediabetes basics, when to get a checkup first

Section II: Motion Overview: physiology basics, hormonal responses, exercise energy systems

Section III: Diabetes Motion Training: cardio, resistance, flexibility, core, and balance training basics

Section IV: Diabetes and Exercise Basics: blood glucose monitoring, oral medications, injected (noninsulin) meds, medication exercise effects, effects of food, supplements(amino acids, and creatine), injuries

Section V: Diabetes Motion Specifics: meters and continuous monitors, normal responses, how motion factors affect blood glucose, adjusting exercise food intake, adjusting meds and insulin for exercise, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia

Section VI: Special Considerations: health complications overview, overweight or obese clients, older clients

Section VII: Motivation and Specific Clients : why people stop exercising, motivational interviewing, overcoming exercise barriers, effective goal setting
